Owner and Lead Instructor

Ryan Shields, Head Instructor of Prodigy Martial Arts, currently holds the registered rank of Sandan (3rd Degree Black Belt) in Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate and Kobudo with the Ken Shi Kai and Dai Nippon Butoku Kai Associations. He also holds a 2nd Degree Black Belt in ITF Tae Kwon Do and has graduated from Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario with an Advanced Diploma in Business Administration.

Mr. Shields has been training since the age of nine and has been taught by several Martial Art World Champions in Kata, Weapons, Kumite and Self Defence. He has won many tournaments on an International and National level, which includes his World Titles in Self Defence, 2x Kata, 3x Team Kata and several Grand Championships. Mr. Shields has also taught several students who have won World Championships in Kata and Self Defence.

He represented the WKC and WKU’s National Team Canada for the last several years which brought him across the world competing in Taranto – Italy, Dublin – Ireland and Florida, USA. Mr. Shields still actively trains himself so he can push his students past their limits. Also, he has travelled to Japan to train with masters in Karate, Jiu Jitsu and Kobudo.
